‘Clifford the Big Red Dog’ is coming back in a live-action setting, so why aren’t people excited to see the pooch make a return?
And here we thought the likes of ‘Cats’ was a disaster when revealed. While not as disastrously ugly as the initial design for ‘Sonic the Hedgehog,’ Clifford from ‘Clifford the Big Red Dog’ is getting the whole live-action treatment and with that came a slew of different feelings.
The crimson dog, in the trailer, puts himself beside four other – normal-sized – pooches surrounded by a white void as the sultry voice over hypes up what next year is going to bring us. All that’s shown, though, is what looks like a golden retriever pup dunked in red paint playing the role of the titular red dog.
The idea of Clifford himself in the real world is kind of jarring when you take away the cutesy element that animation can bring to the table, he is bigger than a house, after all. Though, even that’s being put into question as one Twitter user was quick to point out he actually isn’t that big. He appears to be about 5’3.
Don’t get us wrong, that’s still pretty big, but in comparison to being called the “Big Red Dog.” He isn’t quite living up to his name, especially when he towered over everyone. It isn’t like people standing at a tall 6’ don’t exist. Now, obviously, this isn’t something to lose sleep over, in the end, it’s a simple film with a simple plot and while it might break the established canon (having magically grown into a big red dog rather than gotten enough love to grow), Paramount Pictures still has plenty of time to fill in those gaps with short teasers here and there.
Some, however, are simply glad it didn’t fall into the same trap Sonic did.
